The midlands Discrimination Advice Regional Network (DARN) is a network of advice organisations in East Midlands, West Midlands and South Yorkshire (Sheffield), brought together through funding by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, that provide discrimination advice to the public.
Background
The network was set up in January 2009 with the aim of developing signposting and referral links for discrimination advice issues in order to ensure joined up services across the region. Further aims are:
- Raising awareness of discrimination advice provision in the region
- Enabling the sharing of resources, skills and expertise
- Promoting the importance and impact of discrimination advice within the region
Discrimination
Discrimination could affect anyone at some point in their lives.
Where: It can occur in many different situations - at school or college, at work or when applying for a job, when using any service (whether provided privately or publicly) whether or not you pay for it, in membership of a club or in connection with housing or transport.
Who: People are protected because of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
What: Discrimination can be difficult to recognise and organisations belonging to DARN can assist with information, advice and casework - see Our Members page for contact details.
